Here’s the bad news: In the
time that it takes you to read this short blog post, approximately one woman in
the US will pass away from some form of heart disease. Roughly one in three
women’s deaths can be attributed to it, and 90% of women have one or more risk
factors for developing it.
And the good news? The vast
majority of us still have plenty of time to raise awareness, change bad
habits, and reduce those numbers. And ALL of us have the chance, right now, to
pause and appreciate the women in our lives and make an effort to value more
the time we have left together.
That’s why every Friday from
now until April 19th, on behalf of all women suffering from the
menace of heart disease, all of us at Remington Park and the Chickasaw Nation
are joining with the American Heart Association to Go
Red for Women! By joining together as a team, we’re helping OKC
reach towards a goal of $1,200,000 in donations to be raised by the time of the
Heart Walk at the Bricktown Ballpark on April 19th to go towards
research, treatment, and awareness. Although it’s a silent, sneaky, and easily
forgettable danger in our busy day-to-day lives, we can bring about change by
joining together and giving a voice to this noble cause.
So know your risk, live
healthy, and get involved! Let’s see how far we can go to prevent heart disease
in women – not just for ourselves, but for our mothers, wives, sisters,
daughters, and loved ones across the globe.
