Alternation |
All eyes are on Remington Park for the upcoming Governor’s
Cup as two rival millionaire horses, Alternation and Prayer For Relief, will be
competing on Saturday as the season’s stakes schedule gets underway.
This will be the third time these two have faced off, with
Alternation winning the Governor’s Cup a year ago, leaving Prayer For Relief in
a close second. In 2011, Alternation finished second in the Oklahoma Derby
while Prayer finished third.
Prayer For Relief was raised by famed trainer Steve
Asmussen, and will enter the Governor’s Cup off a win in the Grade 3, $300,000
Cornhusker Handicap in late June.
Alternation, from famous trainer Donnie Von Hemel, will be
defending his Governor’s Cup, coming off a layoff of four months. Despite
his victories over Prayer For Relief in past races, he’s had no top three
finishes in 2013 and two starts.
Prayer For Relief has won six of 21 career attempts with
five runs for second and another four in third place. He has the edge over
Alternation in career money, having earned $1,419,725.
Everything considered, Prayer For Relief tends to enjoy a
slight favoritism over Alternation due to his performance this year. On the
other hand, Alternation has a clear history of wins over his rival.
It’s no understatement to say this is one of the most
anticipated matches of the year at Remington Park, and we will all be watching
closely as these two supremely talented athletes race for glory.

Based on their trainers, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Both
Donnie Von Hemel and Steve Asmusen have a long history of producing some of
Oklahoma’s best race horses, and a rivalry like this reminds us of what it’s
all about – the thrill of the victory.
And when you’re looking at two rival millionaire horses, I think we can all agree that the victory will be made all the more sweeter.
Remington Park is Oklahoma's #1 sporting entertainment destination. Unlike any other Casino in the area, we offer a unique blend of continually-updated casino games, live music, fine dining and both live and simulcast horse racing.
