We all know that the holidays are a time to get together,
celebrate, and have fun.

We all also know that sometimes people let the good times
get in the way of their better judgement.
That’s why every year, AAA Insurance hosts a “mocktail”
contest, getting some of OKC’s best bartenders together to create nonalcoholic concoctions
that deliver all the flavor - but none of the danger.
Alexis Zeigler, bartender at Remington Park’s Silks
Restauraunt, was lucky enough to get chosen to participate in the contest this
year, along with representatives of The Republic Gastropub, Iron Starr BBQ, Cheevers,
and Red Prime Steakhouse.
All the judges - Carol Smaglinski (food reviewer for the Oklahoma
Gazette), Priscilla Luong (from KOKH Fox 25 News ) and Ken Johnson (from KOKC / KOMA / KRXO Radio), voted Alexis’
“mistletoe” mocktail #1. Her prize was $500 cash, and the knowledge that her drink
will be helping others stay safe this holiday.
Q: “So, what’s in it exactly?”
A: “It’s got fresh mint leaves, muddled mint, ½ of a freshly
juiced orange, 2 oz. of Pomegranate juice, 1 oz of Agave, and topped with
Sierra Mist.”
Q: “What made you choose these ingredients?”
Cheers! |
A: “Ms. G wanted me to make something called a Mistletoe so I
thought about the colors and came up with something that I thought would be
good. I went with Pomagranite because it’s in season right now, and
particularly flavorful this time of year - plus, Cranberry is way overdone.
Then I threw the mint in there because it’s a natural breath freshener. After
one of these, you’ll be more than ready to get your kiss on!”
After our interview, I tried it for myself and it’s easy to
see why it’s a bar-none winner. The pomegranate is light and sweet, while the
dash of fresh orange maintains an complimentary citrus zest. The fresh mint at
the top hits your nose first, followed by the muddled mint that sticks around
after each sip to leave you with a fresh and cleansing feeling.
Congratulations to Alexis Zeigler on her creatice concoction,
and here’s to another success next year!
