Global Gaming Solutions, Emerging Brands announce partnership, Henry Hudson’s Pub and Grill

Global Gaming Solutions, Emerging Brands announce partnership, Henry Hudson’s Pub and Grill
at Remington Park to serve visitors within weeks

OKLAHOMA CITY – Officials with Global Gaming Solutions and Emerging Brands, Inc. today announced a partnership that will bring a popular, local eatery to an established entertainment venue in Oklahoma City. Henry Hudson’s Pub and Grill will open at Remington Park in August 2010, giving park patrons as well as other visitors to Oklahoma City’s Adventure District another much-needed dining option.

John Elliott, Global Gaming Solutions chief executive officer, said this partnership continues major priorities set forth before Global Gaming assumed operations of Remington Park earlier this year.

“It always has been our intention to draw upon other Oklahoma-based businesses to help expand the local and state economies as we transform Remington Park into a luxurious entertainment experience,” said Elliott. “This partnership with Emerging Brands, a valued and successful restaurant group, will not only enhance the portfolios of each company but also attract additional visitors to this area of Oklahoma City.”

Elliott said work already has begun to transform the area formerly known as Trackside Café into a full-service Henry Hudson’s Pub and Grill. Improvements to the area include a new façade to the restaurant’s entrance, a full-size bar and flat-screen televisions scattered throughout the pub. Additionally, construction crews are working to convert the current asphalt-laden patio and trackside area into an outdoor dining oasis. The new area will include dining tables, a serene waterfall with grass, shrubbery and other landscaping materials to give fans the opportunity to enjoy food and not miss any racing action.

Kim McLendon, Emerging Brands president, said the Remington Park location will carry on most of the traditions for which Henry Hudson’s is known, yet certain aspects of this particular establishment may be adjusted to better serve visitors at this location.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Global Gaming Solutions and ‘turn on the awning’ of Henry Hudson’s at Remington Park,” said McLendon. “We are ready to offer racing and casino fans the same high-caliber, friendly atmosphere that has helped us become an Oklahoma City staple. Yet, we also recognize the customer base for the park includes visitors of all ages. We want to provide a comfortable experience along with great food at a price that fits any budget and all ages.”

Henry Hudson’s is scheduled to open in August 2010 on the Track level at Remington Park. The restaurant will include a mix of shareable appetizers, sandwiches, salads, burgers and pizzas. Henry Hudson’s at Remington Park also will continue its tradition of offering a great Happy Hour special Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Officials said the pub will be open during all live racing dates and special events. Live Thoroughbred racing season kicks off Thursday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m., with racing taking place every Wednesday through Saturday through December 11.

Season of Dreams

By Scott Wells
President & General Manager

For me, a racetrack general manager who trained horses for many years, the first morning of a new racing season isn’t the first day of actual racing—it’s the first day we open the racetrack for training. That was at 6 0’clock this morning. What a beautiful morning, with temperatures in the 70s and a nice breeze blowing. And what a beautiful sight as the first thoroughbreds stepped onto the carefully groomed and watered dirt surface. We spend $1.4 million each year to make Remington Park’s track one of the safest in the country and this morning as the horses went by it sounded like they were galloping on a cloud.

193 horses arrived at Remington Park yesterday, with more than 1,200 more scheduled to arrive over the next few days. Over the next few months more than 3,000 different horses will race and train here—each one of them an extension of somebody’s dream. That’s what horse racing is. It’s a sport of dreams. We all dream of owning the next Secretariat, a horse so fast and famous he takes us to a world of riches and glamour. “Breed the best to the best and hope for the best” is the old saying. But there are so many steps in the process. Each year thousands of people around the world breed the best mare they own to the best stallion they can afford and the dream begins. It takes 11 months for that foal to be born and another two years before he or she is old enough to race.

Some of the horses I saw this morning were two-year-olds which have never raced yet. The owners, trainers, grooms and jockeys who work with these horses know all the Cinderella stories. A horse named John Henry sold for $1,100 and then $2,200 before the right trainer got him and unlocked the door to his amazing talents. Then he earned $7 million. A horse named Invasor was bought for next to nothing before going on to win $8 million and retiring to stud with a fee of $35,000 per mare. Multiply that by 150 mares and that’s another $5.25 million PER YEAR! Horse racing has more rags-to-riches stories than any other sport. Kings, queens, Arab sheiks and U.S. presidents have all had their horses beaten by people of modest means. Because now and then big dreams do come true for “little people.” And those horses don’t read the financial statements of their owners.

Our “Season of Dreams” started today when the horses hit the track. And in each of the 600 races we’ll conduct between August 19 and December 11, reality will be revealed, one race at a time.

1st Official Workout for Remington Park Season This Morning

REMINGTON PARK TRAINING BEGINS, DELWOOD POSTS INITIAL WORK FOR THOROUGHBRED SEASON

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Remington Park main track racing surface opened at 6am today allowing horses to begin training for the upcoming Thoroughbred Season. Delwood was the first horse to post an official workout, breezing three furlongs at 6:14am.

Owned by Carol Nelson of Mannford, Okla. and trained by Veronica Griggs, Delwood handled his three furlongs in an easy 37.79 seconds over a fast track under clear skies with temperatures in the mid-70s. The work was rated fifth of the five drills timed at three furlongs this morning.

A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding by Candy Ride (Arg) from the Gilded Time mare Honey Grove, Delwood performed nicely according to Griggs who was aboard for the workout.

“He went really well. I’m really happy with him for the first time I’ve worked him,” Griggs said. “The racetrack seemed to be very kind and consistent and he got over it well. I was pleased with his first work in over a year. He’ll have a few more before he is ready to race.”

Delwood has won two of 10 career starts with three seconds and a pair of thirds to his credit. He has not started since winning a $15,000-level conditional claiming event at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas in July 2009 and is preparing for his first career start at Remington Park.

Morning training will continue from 6-8am the rest of this week at Remington Park before moving to a four-hour per morning schedule for all days except Sunday, beginning next week. Trainers and horses continue to fill the Remington Park barns as they arrive from other racing points of call that have concluded their seasons or are nearing the end of their sessions.

The 2010 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season begins Thursday, Aug. 19 and will continue for a total of 67-days thru Saturday, Dec. 11. The normal racing week will be comprised of four nightly sessions, Wednesday thru Saturday, beginning at 6:30pm.

Daily average racing purses for the horses and horsemen in competition are projected at $210,000 this season. The headline event is the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby on Sunday, Oct. 10, the only Sunday of racing this fall.

Remington Park casino action continues each and every day, featuring 750 of the best games to play. Doors open daily at 10am for casino gaming and simulcast racing.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 8, 2010

Global Gaming Solutions continues extensive renovation
projects at Remington Park

Major changes to be complete before start of Thoroughbred Season – August 19

OKLAHOMA CITY – Officials with Global Gaming Solutions recently announced new renovation plans at Remington Park, continuing the complete transformation of the state’s premier racetrack and casino. The latest projects focus mainly on the exterior of the building and will be completed by the start of live Thoroughbred racing season scheduled to kick off Thursday, August 19.

John Elliott, Global Gaming Solutions chief executive officer, said the extensive projects already are underway and will continue at a fast pace throughout the next six weeks.

“These projects continue our plan to transform Remington Park from one of Oklahoma’s most unique entertainment venues into a world-class experience,” said Elliott. “This phase’s major exterior renovations will give the park a much needed facelift from top-to-bottom. Anyone passing by Remington Park will notice the significant changes to the facility.”

Elliott noted that upgrades taking place this summer focus mainly on the racing facility portion of the park, including new roofing on the park’s paddock and main building, resurfacing and new paint to the paddock, main building and balconies, and new exterior lighting and upgrades to the public announcement system for the racetrack.

Opened in September 1988, Remington Park first gained notoriety for its regal horse racing facilities. The park then expanded in late 2005 with the addition of a casino. Since its opening 22 years ago, the number of improvements to the property has been limited. That all changed when Global Gaming Solutions acquired the property on January 1, 2010. The company immediately set an aggressive first-year, $7 million plan to renovate the entire facility.

Remington Park president and general manager Scott Wells said the ongoing renovations demonstrate the commitment of the new ownership group.
“This renewed effort to return Remington Park back to being a point of pride for all Oklahomans is exciting to be a part of,” Wells said. “Truthfully, the new ownership group has done more for Remington Park in six months than anyone else has done in 20 years.”

Elliott pointed out that the improvements are not only for aesthetic purposes.

“Remington Park contributes significantly to Oklahoma’s economy,” said Elliott. “Whether it is through the horse racing industry or from the monies raised through the casino for education, ultimately, these improvements mean more revenue and jobs for the metro area and Oklahoma as a whole. We even go so far as to hire only Oklahoma- or Oklahoma City-based construction companies to complete these projects.”

Currently, more than 200 construction workers are on site and working to complete these projects by the beginning of Thoroughbred Season on August 19.
